Dr. April Kendrick


Dr. April Kendrick is an assistant professor in the college of Human Environmental Sciences, and Director of Child Development Resources at the University of Alabama, which is an agency primarily funded through grants
that oversees programs supporting children, families and childcare providers. She has a BS in Early Child Development, a Master’s in Human Development and Family studies and PhD in Developmental Psychology all from The University of Alabama. She has taught in Human Development and Psychology departments focusing mainly on early childhood development. Dr. Kendrick also has over 15 years’ experience working in large child care programs, (state licensed, NAEYC University Lab Schools). Some of her research interests are related to children’s play behaviors, infant and early childhood mental health and kindergarten readiness. She has presented locally, regionally, nationally and internationally on a variety of topics from Administrative training, The Childcare Professional, Blended families, Effects teachers have on children’s play on the playground, and Establishing positive relationships with families to name a few.
